Abstract

Themes of Identity Crisis reflected in Arabic Literature with the deterioration of Law and Order situation in Arab World and emergence of Colonial Power in Islamic World. The Major themes of Identity are; alienation, migration, killing, ego of me and others, Terrorism etc. Yasmina Saleh tries to consolidate the fact in the novel through the conflict between two generations; Generation of Revolution and Generation of Independent Algeria, that the independence of Algeria from the French colonialism did not bring desirable changes in political, economic and social structures in the country as the people of Algeria are facing the same challenges and atrocities they faced in colonial era. Masses are stuck between a government full with corruption and dictatorship in one hand and the terrorist organizations killing government employees, journalists and general masses in the name of revolution in other hand. The paper will discuss the theme with details and how the novelist tried to portrait this through the characters in novel.
