Abstract

India has an old civilization, it’s a very famous country with diverse culture and traditions, and it posses several precious goods like spices and other commodities for trade. There were trade relations between India and the Arab world. The British came to India for the purpose of trade and after a while, they took control over it in 1757 AD. When Islamic scholars and thinkers saw that India had become a colonial and subjugated country under British colonialism, they raised their voices against this brutal colonial government and played an important role in liberating India from the hands of British colonialism. The scholars initiated various diverse movements for the liberation of India. Among these movements, there was a well-known movement in the history of India's struggle for independence that is called “Tahreek-e Reshmi Rumal” i.e. Silken Letters Movement. In this article, I will deal with this movement and its role in the liberation of India by the Sheikh al-Hind Maulana Mahmoud Al-Hassan Al-Deobandi. He started this movement and spent his life for the same.
