Abstract

Speech is divided into two types: familiar discourse that is common among people, characterized by transparency, clarity, and simplicity of expression; and speech that deviates from the familiar, departing from the norm. The norm refers to everything that belongs to linguistic logic and the conventions established among native speakers of the language. Deviation occurs in all types of linguistic discourse and is more prominently present and beautiful in literary and poetic texts, while it is almost absent in scientific writing. Deviation is a stylistic phenomenon that gives the text artistic and aesthetic value and draws attention to many rhetorical secrets, as it is used in metaphorical and figurative expressions. This research studies deviation in the poetry of Omar Abu Risha, and its importance lies in revealing what deviation has achieved in the artistic aspect of the poet's work, clarifying the aesthetic impact of deviation artistically and semantically, and the manner of its use in his poetry. Accordingly, the researcher concluded that the poet Omar Abu Risha employed deviation in both its substitutional and structural types in his poetry in an aesthetic manner through the use of language in ways that take it beyond the familiar, thus opening a wide field for creativity and distinction, and creating feelings of wonder and surprise in the recipient while drawing their attention to the beauty of the literary poetic text.
