FERDINAND DE SAUSSURES CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF FOREIGN LANGUAGES TEACHING CURRICULA
إسهامات دي سوسير في تطوير مناهج تعليم اللغات الأجنبية
Abstract
This study explores Ferdinand de Saussure’s contributions to the development of foreign language teaching methodologies through his foundational linguistic theories, particularly his view of language as a system of signs and relations. The research shows that Saussure’s ideas gave rise to structuralism approaches that influenced language teaching, especially the Audio-Lingual Method, and paved the way for applied linguistics. His influence continues to appear in modern communicative approaches. The study concludes that Saussure’s linguistic thought provides a solid theoretical basis for building scientifically grounded language teaching curricula, while emphasizing the need to reinterpret his ideas in light of contemporary linguistic and pedagogical developments.
