Abstract

India has been witness to the rise and development of Arabic journalism in different parts of its territorial expanse since the last quarter of the 19th Century. The Indian Arabic journals were issued at different points of time for varying goals and objectives. Some early journals aimed at raising awareness among the Arabs, help them make their opinions, and achieve socio-cultural, political and intellectual advancement. While some other journals played the role of mouthpiece for their respective institutions and seminaries. The Indian government too issued some important journals from India and its missions abroad with the primary objective of introducing Arabs with the Indo-Arab legacy and enhance bilateral relations between India and the Arab countries in different spheres of human activity. Majalla-tul-Hind is one of such journals started with the sole objective of raising the level of Arabic journalism in India by publishing authenticated academic and literary research articles if they meet the standards set out by the review committee. It is the only peer-review Arabic journal in India, which strives to maintain its credibility. The paper sheds light on the journal, its objectives, formative stage, and some remarkable achievements.
