MAROUF AL-RUSAFI AND POLITICAL ASPECTS IN HIS POETRY: AN ANALYTICAL STUDY

Abstract

In the first half of the twentieth century, Iraq witnessed many thinkers and politicians who left fingerprints in the history. A new era of intellect and politics emerged with the emergence of the elite people in the field of thought and politics. One of them is known as Rusafi, who called on Muslims and Christians to unite and achieve glory for the homeland by saying: (It is not harmful if we cooperate between us to prosperous our countries and be strength for those who do not know that we are at brothers. Marouf Rasafi started his poetic life at his early youth, where he had command on composing political poems; he attacked by his poetry the Ottoman Empire and the British occupation authorities. His feelings in poetry were reflecting the reality of life and his poetry applies painful reality often images embodied different stages of life, including political, social, economic and others. In his political career, Rusafi went through three important stages: the Ottoman Empire, the English occupation and the mock governments. This article deals with the political status of Rusafi and shows his opinion, citing from his poems.
