Abstract

Arabic always got enriched with the Indian sciences and arts. Earlier the Arabs took its vocabularies and then during the Abbasids’ period they translated its books and treatises into their language. In our time similar attempts were made to enrich the Arabic with Indian sciences and arts. Dr. Aurang Zeb Azmi who is Assistant Professor in the Department of Arabic in Jamia Millia Islamia (New Delhi) and is a great name in the world in the field of translation rendered valuable services to this field. His Arabic translation (المصادر الهندية للعلوم الإسلامية) has got appreciation from the Arabs. It is has been done from Urdu into Arabic. Similarly, (المأمون) and (التراث المنقول) also got appreciation from the Arabs.

Being encouraged by these appreciations Dr. Azmi selected some 22 Urdu short stories and translated them into Arabic which were published by Roseword Books (Abul Fazl, New Delhi) in 2013. This article is a detailed review of this valuable attempt made by Dr. Aurang Zeb Azmi.
