Abstract

Sheikh Sam Shihabuddin is a leading literary figure of the state of Tamil Nadu, India-who made intensive efforts for religious service, literature and Arabic language and Arabu-Tamil languages. He has many compositions in Arabu-Tamil. Sheikh Sam Shahabuddin is one of the finest poets of the Arabu-Tamil of seventeenth century. And he is the first poet to compose poems in Arabu-Tamil language from Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka.He has more than fifty poems on a variety of topics, including a poem on Prohet’s Life and other Heroes of Islam. His poems safeguarded Islamic Aqeeda against various social ills. Sheikh Shahabuddin advised people in general and Muslims in particular to leave bid’aat and evils. He translated the biography of the Prophet (peace be upon him) by Ibn Hisham into the language of Arabu-Tamil.
