THE ROLE OF LINGUISTIC CONTEXT IN DETERMINING THE INTENDED MEANING OF THE HADITH

Abstract

The language of Prophetic Hadiths is characterized by eloquence, clarity, and rhetorical excellence. This is evident in the linguistic contexts in which the sayings of the Prophet (peace be upon him) were conveyed. This study, titled "The Role of Linguistic Context in Determining the Intended Meaning of Prophetic Hadith," aims to explore these refined and elevated linguistic contexts and uncover the meanings and implications embedded within the Hadiths. The study examines selected Hadiths through explanation and analysis using the inductive-analytical method. After thorough study and examination, the research reached several key findings, the most significant of which is that context, in its various forms, plays a crucial role in understanding the intended meaning of Hadith. The meanings are derived from the contexts in which they appear. Despite the abundance of studies on Prophetic Hadiths, this study recommends conducting further linguistic research on the language of Hadiths. Their language serves as a rich and pure source for enhancing both linguistic and legislative knowledge through linguistic studies and jurisprudential research.
